Maybank Scholarship Award: Interview

About a week after the online assessment, I received a call from a Maybank employee asking me to choose a convenient date and time for stage 2 of Maybank's scholarship selection, the interview, which was pretty darn exciting to say the least. I also received an email from Maybank informing me of the dress code and required documents.
Word Crimes: Part 2
I'll break this guideline into multiple parts so you can just skip to whichever part you're interested in.

DRESS CODE

Your outfit is a lot more important than you may think.
It's what forms the interviewer's first impression of you and also subtly reflects on your personality. So make sure to wear the appropriate attire which is, as stated in the email, formal business attire and make sure to wear it neatly.

*internal screaming
"WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN!?"

Le gents:
For guys, formal business attire is pretty darn simple.
A black suit and a tie and you're all set up.

Le dames:
A good old fashioned baju kurung is the way to go since it's practically Malaysia's official formal wear for women. If you're uncomfortable wearing a baju kurung then go for a skirt suit or pants suit(which is what I wore). Just make sure that the skirt isn't too short if you decide on a skirt suit.

Most of the Malays I saw wore baju kurung and the non-Malays mainly wore pants suits.
This is just some extra info in case, you wanna go with the crowd lol.

EXTRA
Here are some links for all you messieurs and mesdames who wanna look at more detailed guides on formal business attire:

What you gotta know

Read up as much as you can on Maybank; basic stuff like their background, CEO, CFO, founder, core values, etc are sufficient. You find all the aforementioned info by going to trusty ol' Uncle Google and Aunty Wiki or you can read my notes on Maybank in my Maybank Scholarship Award: Pre-Interview Research post.

It will relieve you to know that there was also no essay for this year's scholarship interview.

Interview Tips

  • Greet the interviewer when you enter the interview room.
  • Smile, be friendly and polite to the interviewer(s).
  • Don't la sit macam apek or gangster, tutup your kopitiam and relax yo hands on yer lap
  • Remember to shake hands and/or say something along the lines of "Thank you. Hope you have nice day." after the interview.
Ya got that? OK. Seriously, though just relax. The interviewer(s) are really chill and friendly and will generally try to make you feel at ease before starting/ending the interview. So, just try to enjoy the experience and ask whatever questions you want.  Good luck!
